About Us
Memory loss matures over a period of time, forcing the person into the cage of Alzheimer’s disease. Considering the gravity of the situation U.N. has declared 21st September as World Alzheimer’s Day to increase global awareness of this disease.
ARDSI Thiruvananthapuram Chapter (ARDST)
Thiruvananthapuram Chapter of the ARDSI was formed in 1998 by a group of philanthropists concerned about those afflicted with this alarming disease. The loved ones of these unfortunate individuals realized the need to ease the stress, strain and pain of not only the patients but also their caregivers. The Trivandrum Chapter strives to generate necessary awareness and create appropriate support systems for the patients and their caregivers.
Journey toward Snehasadanam: Creating a Haven of Care
A good care centre is an ideal place for elders who are affected by dementia, where their twilight years can be usefully and happily spent …. this was the lesson Thiruvananthapuram Chapter had learnt from the experience it had gained from running the Day Care Centre, and it started looking for an ideally located spot to revitalise its zest for a Care Centre. The search ended with the establishment of Snehasadanam (ARDST Dementia Care Center) on the Pettah-Chackai Airport road, slightly away from the hub of the city activities. This Care Centre which was inaugurated on the 19th of March, 2008 became the country’s second full-fledged Care Centre, well equipped to house 12 inmates, as well as well-staffed – an administrator & nursing assistant, and six caregivers including a driver-cum-carer (for its Tempo traveller).
Operating under the Thiruvananthapuram chapter of the Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI), ARDST is committed to providing specialized care and support to patients with dementia and other memory disorders. It has evolved into a compassionate ‘second home’ for seniors in need. ARDST operates under the provisions of the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955, with Registration No: TVM/TC/41/2022, and is also approved under Section 12A of the I.T Act 1961.
